Sealcoating : Seasons End
Sealcoat Season Has Ended Sadly
Sealcoating is a very seasonal process of refinishing asphalt. We have had customers ask in the past why we stop or why we do not come seal their parking lot now when they are willing to pay? The short version is because mother nature has the final say. It is not wise to seal when temperatures start dipping under 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Depending on the type of seal a company uses if the sealcoat does not have enough warmth to cure it could turn a variety of different colors: dark blue, dark green, white etc. and even try to flake back up. We’ve seen it all. Not what a customer would like to see on their newly sealed asphalt.
Every Company is Different
Why does your company stop sealing when I still see other company’s out sealing? I guess it has to do with company preference and the liability each individual company is willing to take. When temperatures start getting really low the seal has the chance of not curing. Sometimes the seal can look dry to the eye but still not be cured. You could come back a few days later and the parking lot have changed colors. This would mean having to redo the parking lot at our expense and that is not a risk we are willing to take.
